Towering
above the Legion building on Highway 7 just east of Sheet Harbour,
a 1.5 MW Vensys V77 wind turbine is in the final construction
stages in the community of Watt Section.
Watts Wind Energy Inc., is a new venture established by Seaforth
Engineering and Eon WindElectric as a Community Economic Development
Investment Fund (CEDIF) and supported by the Nova
Scotian government. The firm will operate the pilot project under
a 20 year power purchase agreement with NS Power.
Nova Scotia residents, including residents in the
Sheet Harbour community, will have an opportunity to invest in
Watts Wind Energy as part of the CEDIF structure which is RRSP
eligible and provides the potential for up to 65% in tax benefits
to eligible Nova Scotia investors.
The province has established a target of 25% renewable electricity
by 2015 and saw its first cooperative venture erecting a large
turbine in Porters Lake Shopping Center several years ago.
Telephone poles show the scale of the newly
erected turbine in Watt Section.
Workers exit the doorway at the base of the Watt Energy turbine.
