December 1999

Christmas Poem
by Lester Sanford

It's been such a long, long time,
The year I do not know.
I guess it was in 55,
I think I got it right,
I looked underneath the Xmas tree,
Oh, what a pleasant sight.

She sat there just a shining,
Her skin was pure jet black,
That Lionel steam engine,
Just sitting on the track.

I know I really wanted it,
So very, very bad,
I know Santa really heard me,
And I guess also my Dad.

I still have that proud old train,
After all these years,
It is a very special thing,
A prize to show my peers.

She's traveled many miles with me,
From the East Coast to the West,
That dear old electric train,
The toy I loved the best.
