The Vision Hike to White Flag
On Friday February the 19th a dozen or more members
of the Musquodoboit Harbour Trailways Association met for Coffee
before leaving on a hike to the top of White Flag.
White Flag is a high granite ridge which gives a
view of the surrounding area as far as the open ocean on the East
and Gibraltar Rock on the West side.
In
spite of wet weather and driving rain the participants were detemined
to make the trek along the trail and into the wilderness and the
ascent to the summit of White Flag; which is also known locally
as Railway Crag or Rowling Stone.
When they reached the summit, wet weary and cold,
they were greeted by the trail crew who had prepared hot food and
refreshments for all.
The purpose of this exercise was to allow members
of the association and the general public to get a feel for the
development of future phases of the trail, including wilderness
loops over several similar granite ridges and also a view of the
White Lake Wilderness protected area.
The Vision of the association includes future development
of canoe routes and portages through this vast wilderness area.
The White Lake Wilderness area is one of 31 areas throughout Nova
Scotia which have been declared recently to be preserved in their
natural state for the enjoyment of Nova Scotians and their children
for all time.
If you wish to be a part of this exciting development
or wish to contribute to help in funding future phases please contact
